The Big Sing MIssion and Vision

Mission

The Big Sing strives to give new meaning and value to contemporary choral singing and repertoire. We do this through the production and presentation of innovative projects, mainly (but not exclusively) with leading professional choirs and ensembles who share our desire to combine tradition with renewal, professional with amateur to create experiences relevant to society, contemporary life, and the world.

Vision

Choir and vocal music is about people and all aspects of life. Singing is a profoundly human activity which has touched and given meaning to daily life for countless cultures and through countless centuries. Choral singing is the ideal artform for giving expression to a gamut of experiences; singing together unites, helps us reflect, or deal with deep and complex emotions. By bringing together the world’s best professional choirs, composers, amateurs, and artists of other disciplines sharing a sense of adventure, The Big Sing celebrates this unique power of choral music with our annual festival in the cities of Haarlem and Amsterdam. We do this for the largest possible public (who unexpectedly may find themselves singing in events themselves.) Without embarrassment or compromise, The Big Sing pursues its ideal of choral singing as a steppingstone to a better world.
