LYYRA (VS) – WHEN THE EARTH STANDS STILL
Location: Grote of St. Bavokerk – Haarlem
In true fashion of The Big Sing, the festival 2025 opens in style with a stunning international debut! This is the European debut of THE a cappella sensation in America in 2024 – the six-voice female ensemble Lyyra. Our introduction to this amazing ensemble was a true discovery and thus a must have for the 2025 programme.
Lyyra is a product of the international VOCES8 Foundation and is the only professional women’s a cappella sextet based in the USA. The ensemble’s name – inspired by the constellation representing Orpheus’ famed lyre – melds music and harmony with the night sky.
Lyyra’s mission is to celebrate and expand the genre of upper voice music in the choral landscape. They have made a great start, drawing superlatives from audiences, critics and fellow professionals for the velvety richness and brilliance of their sound. Lyyra specialises in classical, jazz, pop, and folk music from diverse traditions, and all of this repertoire will be heard during their Sint Bavokerk concert.
